Questions about Milkstones
What is Milkstones?
A free web app for keeping track of a baby’s feeds, nappies and weights. It runs in a browser, installs to your home screen like an app, and is built for one-handed use in the middle of the night.
Is Milkstones free?
Yes. There is no subscription, no card, no paid tier and no adverts. It is a small app built for one family and shared as it is.
Do I need to create a password?
No. You sign in with a six-digit code sent to your email address, and can then add a passkey for one-tap sign-in afterwards. There is no password, so there is nothing to forget, reuse, or have stolen in someone else’s data breach.
Can I use it on more than one device?
Yes. Your email address is the account, so you can sign in on a phone, a tablet and a laptop and see the same entries. Passkeys are tied to a single device, but your account is not.
Can my partner log feeds too?
Yes. You can invite one other caregiver by email, and you both see the same day in real time. They can add and edit entries; only the owner can invite or remove people.
What can I track?
Breast, bottle and expressed feeds, nappies, naps and weights. It shows daily totals, time since the last feed, how many naps and how long they lasted, and weight against expected growth. Naps can be timed as they happen, or logged afterwards with or without an end time.
Can I export my data?
Feeds and naps, yes: each as a CSV spreadsheet, from Settings, at any time. You do not have to ask anyone or wait for it to be prepared. Weights are not in the export yet.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. From Settings you can delete a baby’s profile and every entry against it, or your whole account. It happens immediately rather than being queued for review. Encrypted backups age out within 365 days, which is the one place deleted data can briefly persist.
Do you show adverts or sell my data?
No. There are no adverts, no analytics, no trackers and no third-party sharing. Nothing about you is sent anywhere except the service that stores your entries and the one that emails your sign-in code.
Where is my data stored?
On Microsoft Azure, in the United States. UK data protection law does not require personal data to be kept in the UK; it requires a safeguard for the transfer, and that safeguard is the International Data Transfer Addendum implemented in Microsoft’s data protection addendum.
Does it work offline?
Partly. The app opens without a signal and shows the entries it already has, so you can check when the last feed was. Saving a new entry does need a connection, and the app tells you plainly when you are offline rather than pretending a save worked.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It is a website, so it works in any modern browser. You can add it to your home screen if you want it to open like an app, but nothing goes through an app store.
What happens if I lose my phone?
Sign in on a new device with your email address and everything is there. A passkey lives only on the device that created it, so the lost one becomes useless to anyone holding the phone, and you can remove it from Settings.
Is Milkstones a medical device?
No. It records what you tell it and does arithmetic on it. It does not give medical advice and must not be used to diagnose anything. If you are worried about feeding, weight or anything else, speak to your midwife, health visitor or GP, and use 999 or 111 in an emergency.
How is it different from other baby tracking apps?
It is free with no adverts, no analytics and no tracking; it needs no password; you can export everything as a spreadsheet and delete all of it yourself at any moment. It is deliberately small, and tracks feeds, nappies and weights rather than trying to cover everything.
